There is a current movement to acknowledge the service of women in the United States Armed Forces, and I am grateful to be a part of it!
I spent the last few days at a V-Wise conference. What an amazing opportunity and conference! The first thing I noticed was the instant camaraderie around the room. Everyone there had served in some capacity. Whether they were enlisted or officer, Army, Marine, or spouse, every attendee had made a sacrifice for their country.
The energy at the start of the conference really set the tone for a wonderful experience and lots of hard work. The opening ceremonies were packed with great information and truly inspirational stories of women who had served our country. We heard from the first woman General (yes, that’s a full 4 star General). General Ann E. Dunwoody was eloquent and well spoken and it was a refreshing site to see 4 stars on her shoulder boards. Her speech filled the room with a sense of hope and understanding that now is our time. Now is the time to show our leadership power and take over more leadership positions.
We also heard from Major General Gina S. Farrisee, and heard her challenging tale of rising through the ranks to take command. The focus was on leadership and the legacy that women leave in their wake. These women have blazed a trail for many to follow and there are many behind them that will fill the shoes and answer the call.
I am more focused and committed now as a result of this event! Can’t wait to see where it all leads.
